It’s #WorldBookDay in the UK, and I am still contemplating my love of literature since seeing the new #WutheringHeights movie. I was always a bookworm, but it was my mother’s fancy Franklin Library collection that drew me to the Brontë sisters. I devoured Charlotte’s Jane Eyre first at maybe 10 years old and then moved on to Emily’s gothic moor tale. As a young girl with a massive imagination, I dreamed of English country estates and long walks in the heath. (And still do!) I credit those superb scrivener sisters for shaping the reader, writer, and woman I am today. March is off to a good start 📚Hope yours is, too 🍻 We had a full house last night for Janice Bruce Hightower’s “When Families Converge: How Free is Free” program @st.charlespubliclibrary that I was proud to present as part of the St. Charles Equity & Inclusion Commission! Hightower was engaging, funny, and deeply informative. Everyone in the room learned something new about American history, and Hightower shared books to read and plenty of movies to watch to learn more! Black History IS American history, and we are fortunate to hear these incredible stories not only to understand this nation better, but to know the real people who shaped it. Bookish, lately. My heart is so full after a weekend of TWO SOLD OUT Page to Stage shows filled with friends, family, and community. This is my fifth year bringing Page to Stage to fruition and the first time going out on our own to produce! I’m overcome with gratitude to the #stcharleswritersgroup writers, actors, directors, @st.charlespubliclibrary, and most of all, my fellow producers @mtheresafaith, Cara Schuster, and Michael Mackey for making this the best year yet! Ain’t no stopping us now—we’re just getting started! https://www.instagram.com/p/DT8GqTjjqZN/ ~Cat Haiku~ Happy National Tulip Day! Tulips always bring immediate cheerfulness into the home, and, for me personally, nostalgia for time spent in the Netherlands at graduate school. Plus they continually compel me to write haikus: Jumping on the 2016 trend and remembering the glorious time in my life spent @edithfarnsworthhouse as a staff member. Here was a mid-winter employee party, Jan. 2016. Every moment spent in or around that house was a dream.
